Thanks to Norma Torti who this past weekend raised nearly $300 for the Arts for Angels program.
In case you're unfamiliar, Arts for Angels™, produced by Norma Torti, is a unique art program of Annie’s Angels Memorial Fund whose mission is to bring joy, self-expression, sense of calmness and meaningful connection to people in assisted and independent living, adult day-out, hospice, and senior centers through the process of creating art. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported Norma and this program.
I'd like to tell you about a request I received recently from a caseworker for her client "J". J has autism, she is also an escape artist. J has escaped many times from many different places. Her most terrifying escape comes when she’s in the car. She manages to unbuckle her seatbelt and jump from the car, sometimes while moving, sometimes into traffic. Her caseworker "A" requested a harness from a company called Merritt who produce products that are “Escape-Proof Products for Your Little "Houdinis" on their website, escapeproof.com. We purchased the Buckle Guard & Chest Clip Guard Combo because using a Chest Clip Guard and a Buckle Guard together prevents all the most common ways kids get out of their seat. So far…so good.
I want to share the "Final Request of SK." SK is a 57 year old man that was admitted to hospice services in June after a long battle with Castleman Disease and End Stage Heart Failure/Kidney Disease. SK was laid off from his job in January after a below-the-knee amputation left him disabled. He was unable to apply for social security disability and has been without an income since he was laid off. SK, facing eviction from his apartment for failure to pay rent, and with a poor prognosis reached out to family in the mid-west where he is from. Together they decided it would be best for SK to return to his hometown. They made arrangements to pay the back rent, get SK's things in order and buy him an airline ticket. There was only one need that wasn't filled and the funding was all gone. SK's case worker turned to YOU, the supporters of Annie's Angels requesting a ride to the airport. Thanks to YOU, Annie's Angels made this final request reality. Working with Dover Wheelchair Transport we paid for the final ride from SK's home to the airport.
Sometimes it’s the big things we do, sometimes it’s the little things, but they are all important things that we do together. Please share our mission of hope with family, friends, and everyone you meet!
If you, your company, or organization would like to learn more about Annie's Angels I am always happy to meet and talk about who we are, what we do and where we are moving into the future.
One of the most humbling phrases I hear when Angel Families send a thank you is;
"I just want you to know, the help you have given my family got me in the right direction and was a huge help."
All of our Annie's Angels successes are because of YOU, the Angels Among Us who give generously and give often. Without YOU we are nothing.
