On Tuesday, July 27th, 2021, a beautiful sunny morning, Jim Harvey was riding his mountain bike on the Clyde Pond trails in Windham, an activity he did at least a few days a week before work. While on a trail he had ridden countless times before, his bike stopped abruptly and he flew over the handlebars. Jim was wearing a helmet, but he unfortunately sustained a severe spinal cord injury to the C6/C7 cervical vertebrae, resulting in full paralysis from the chest down. This life-altering event will unfortunately affect Jim and his family every day for the rest of their lives. Although the Harvey family has come such a long way since that day, they continue to deal with significant challenges that are, on some days, overwhelming at best. Jim is a beloved member of the Windham community where he was born and raised, by his parents Brian and Donna, along with his siblings Lisa and Craig. Jim still resides in Windham with his wife Alicia (his high school
sweetheart), and their two young children. Along with family and friends, it is this amazing community that has enabled the Harvey family to stay within their home and minimize the impact to the children as much as possible through various fundraising events. Fundraising has also
provided means to make their home ADA accessible, cover the costs of Medical bills, physical therapy, an off- road vehicle, and in-home care.
The Harvey family is overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of support and cannot thank their friends and the community enough for everything they have done and continue to do. Although Jim is transitioning back to work part time, the continued fundraising is incredibly helpful. This year, fundraising is not only slated to be put towards the rising in-home care costs, but also
towards a modified handicap van. Jim has been working with New Hampshire Vocational Rehab to get qualified to be able to drive again using a specially modified handicap van. Jim would love to contribute more to “the family day to day” by being able to drive his kids to activities!
Special thanks for the amazing support!
We are overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of support from the community for Jim and his family. Last year’s tournament was sold out so please register early. We are looking forward to another great event and hope you will be part of it. Your support is greatly appreciated.
