An Update and a Look Ahead
Bill DaGiau
I want to lead off this newsletter with a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Teddy Bear Drive a massive success delivering 1500 Teddy Bears to the kids at Boston Children's Hospital! Trends Gift Gallery gave the lions share for a single donor through their annual month long "Buy 1 We'll Donate 1" event at the store, the rest came from local company Teddy Bear collections and private drop offs. Diane, Brian and I were joined by Mrs New Hampshire America Diana Erickson and Hayley LaPoint from WMUR. I know this day was very special to them. Check out Hayley's video!

While the stories of the day are many I will share two of them.

The first came from a worried mom. I saw her watching from a cafe table across the hall, over by the lunch counter in the main lobby sipping her coffee. She watched for a long time so I went over to her and hiding behind a 12 inch teddy bear, in my best teddy bear voice I asked if she was visiting  someone upstairs? She said "no, I'm not visiting but what are you doing over there?" so I told her about Annie's Angels and the teddy bear drive. Her next words made my heart melt. She said "my baby is upstairs in surgery right now. I would love for her to wake up to one of these bears. Can I have one?" Naturally I handed over the one I had been hiding behind. As she choked back a tear, I told her I would say a prayer for her family. Then she walked to the elevator to bring the teddy bear up to the floor.

I know this next story happened at least two times. Once to me and once to Diane, maybe to the others? In my case a little boy, obviously a patient, it was the IV pole that gave it away, came over to the table. Judging by the number of bags on his pole, he was going to be there for awhile. I thought he was going to ask for a teddy bear for himself but to my surprize he said "can I have a bear for my brother? He's having a rough time right now" He pointed across the lobby and there was his mom and little brother sitting on a chair. I walked over to them and let the brother pick a bear from the pile I had in my arms. Then, I turned to the little boy and asked " would you like one too?" He looked at his mom and his little brother and picked out his perfect teddy bear.

Thank you for allowing Annie's Angels to bring a smile to 1500 kids that afternoon in July and thank you from the more than 6,000 kids at Boston Children's Hospital that you've helped make smile over the past 5 years. Mission accomplished...for now!

We've been promoting the 3rd Annual New England Country Music Festival at the Red Hook for months and this past Sunday, it finally happened! What a perfect day to enjoy great local talent as well as national headliners. The Red Hook stepped up in a big way to make their place look and feel festive and inviting and the artists DID NOT disappoint!
Special thanks goes out to everyone who came out to make this such a successful event, The Harbor Agency, New England Country Music, New England Mobile Audio, The Red Hook, artists Paige Davis, Jimmy Connor, Timmy Brown, Casey Dirham, William Michael Morgan, Michael Ray and Frankie Ballard. And to the couple that got engaged LIVE on the stage, thanks for sharing that special event in your life with us and we wish you a long happy life together.

REMEMBER! This year's Reach the Beach, a "200-ish miles in 24 hour"  run  will take place on September 15 & 16. Thisyear Team Wine O'Clock @ The 401 Tavern will be running to benefit Annie's Angels! Paula Stanca of The 401 Tavern said, "We're inspired by the work of ANNIE'S ANGELS MEMORIAL FUND INC and wanted to support them by raising money as part of our participation in 2017 Ragnar Relay Reach the Beach. Please help us help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about ANNIE'S ANGELS MEMORIAL FUND INC, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!" Thank you Paula, Desi and everyone participating on Team Wine O'Clock @ The 401 tavern.

Finally, I would like to invite you to join our monthly giving group. It's easy, just visit AnniesAngels.org  and make a donation. During check out click the box that asks if you'd like to make your donation recurring monthly. No amount is to small, no amount is to great. We need your continued support. Thank you.

EnviroVantage is a leading New England based Environmental Specialty Services & Demolition Contractor with over 33 years of award winning experience. Specializing in Hazardous Material Abatement, Remediation and Demolition , EnviroVantage services residential, commercial, industrial, and government clients across the Northeast.

EnviroVantage Founder & President, Scott Knightly, is a pioneer in the abatement and remediation industry. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business & Economics, he began doing what he loved most- restoring old homes and historic buildings in New Hampshire. The challenge came when he continuously ran into lead paint and there were no state or federal guidelines for its safe removal.

In time, the processes and practices Knightly developed as New Hampshire’s first Private LeadContractor were adopted as state regulations in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts, and EnviroVantage became a regional leader in Environmental clean-up and historic restoration.

Presently, EnviroVantage is a three time Business of the Year recipient with more than 34 industry awards for excellence.

Tonya Knightly, EnviroVantage CFO and wife of Scott Knightly, was first introduced to Annie’s Angels in 2014 during her reign as Mrs. New Hampshire.  Dedicated to making a difference, Tonya became a welcomed visitor at Boston Children’s Hospital, where she delivered teddy bears with Annie’s Angels to patients.  “If you want to change your perspective on life, spend a couple hours in the lobby of Boston Children’s Hospital, and talk to the parents” reflects Tonya.

Tonya’s personal commitment speaks to the workplace culture that EnviroVantage has created, where both the company and its employees invest themselves in the community.   With Annie’s Angels, Tonya immediately noted a mirrored philosophy.  “It’s the community based, immediate response approach to making a difference in peoples lives”.

Whether through corporate sponsorships or community outreach events and donations, EnviroVantage sets the standard in giving back to the communities it serves.  For more information about Tonya Knightly and EnviroVantage visit www.envirovantage.com

Happy August; Quick & Easy

This is so quick and easy and you could substitute the zucchini with brown rice, spaghetti and chop up some veggies to make like a lo mein!

Ingredients For the sauce:
¼ cup Braggs liquid aminos (this is a substitute for soy sauce)
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon olive oil
¼ cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic minced

The "pasta":
2 large zucchini, spiralized

Instructions:

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the aminos, hot sauce , and honey; set aside.

To a large skillet, add 1 teaspoon oil and onions. Cook onions down for 2 minutes or until tender. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Next, add the sauce to the skillet and cook for about 1 minute then add the spiralized zucchini noodles and cook just for 1-2 minutes or until fully coated with sauce. Serve immediately!

Sharing CBD
By: Cheri Mencke

Have you ever heard of CBD? Did you know you have an Endocannabinoid System? We have  a system in our bodies that is essentially a series of receptor sites, discovered in 1992, that
plays a direct role in homeostasis and regulates every metabolic process going on...pain sensation, appetite, temperature regulation, stress reactivity, immune function, sleep...even muscle and fat tissue utilizes these receptors to control their processes! We happen to make our own substances called ‘cannabinoids’ that stimulate this incredible homeostatic system (go figure!), but we can also take external cannabinoids that do the same. CBD is one of those
cannabinoids and is the non-psychoactive/non-addictive component of the cannabis plant. It communicates with our amazing ‘command system’ center to keep things running as they should. CBD is the most researched cannabinoid available (with studies dating back to the 1940’s proving its effectiveness on the nervous and immune systems, with NO toxicity, side effects, nor psycho-activity), but there are over 85+ known cannabinoids in cannabis! Cannabis has been stigmatized for decades, but it is well known now that the plant’s active ingredients (cannabinoids) provide a natural remedy to a host of health issues...epilepsy,
anxiety/depression, oxidative stress (associated with neurodegenerative diseases, heart
disease, gene mutations, cancer), inflammation, autoimmune disorders, Lyme, chronic pain,
Parkinson’s, concussions, weight management, diabetes, blood pressure, digestive issues,
sleep disorders, addiction to narcotics, etc. It may sound too good to be true, but it’s because all
of these health issues are related to the manipulation of our Endocannabinoid system!

If you would like more information on this I would love to meet with you! I also host occasional
informational events educating people on the power of this plant for health and wellness. There
are wonderful, high quality whole plant extract products with CBD and other beneficial
cannabinoids immediately available and legal in all 50 states. I would love to share my story
with cannabis and my journey to health, and what I have seen in other people’s lives. You can
visit my website, or call or text me!
