You may be wondering, what will Annie's Angels do with the money raised at this year's Heavenly Ball? The answer is simple! We'll continue to do what we have done for the past 11 years, help local families struggling financially through life threatening disease, illness or disability.
Oh, you'd feel better participating if you had an example. Okay.
This week I received a request for assistance from Families First, a local health care agency that helps low income families and individuals. A gentleman who is suffering with Diabetic Neuropathy and Peripheral Vascular Disease is in so much pain that he has trouble walking. He needs to get into a Pain Management Clinic, there are 3 locally by the way, but can't afford it. He can't afford insurance and doesn't qualify for Medicaid. Insurance through the marketplace is out of the question because he has Part A Medicare, which doesn't cover managed pain care. This is a spiral that many families, believe it or not, fall into. There was no one to help this man so we did. Today he is in a local pain treatment center thanks to YOU. Thanks to your support of Annie's Angels.
I'll share one more situation we helped with just last week. We'll call it "The Story of Laurie and Pam"
Laurie had been in Portsmouth Hospital for 2 weeks struggling with end stage COPD. She was referred to us by Nurse Pam. Pam found us through Robin at a local medical supply house. I love when people make connections!
In order for Laurie to be released from the hospital she needed to have an O2 Concentrator but with no insurance this would be almost impossible. Laurie made some calls and found a refurbished in-home model for $500.00 but that wouldn't work. Living alone, Laurie still needed to be mobile, go to work, grocery shop, normal things we all need to do. This left one option, a portable unit. I made some calls and found that a new unit was about $5200.00!!! I also found that a refurbished portable unit was about $3500.00. Both of these portable options were cost prohibitive. How do we get Laurie home?
Robin was kind enough to make some calls to management at her company. They agreed to help us so for $1500.00 Annie's Angels was able to purchase a portable O2 Concentrator. That afternoon the equipment was delivered and set up. Today, Laurie is back to as normal a life as she can have, thanks to YOUR support of Annie's Angels.
I know these were 2 "insurance related" stories but since last month we also helped families struggling with disease, illness or disability by supplying $500.00 in grocery gift cards to get food on the table, we provided $400.00 in gas cards so families can get to work, appointments and treatments. We've provided oil and propane to help families that meet our mission stay warm through this crazy cold. All of this and more made possible by YOU.

This annual celebration is our biggest single fundraiser of the year. Last
year's event raised nearly $80,000.00 thanks to supporters like you. This year our goal will be to break the $100,000.00 ceiling. I know it's a steep goal and it will be a hard fought battle to get there but with your support, your effort helping us get the word out, we can reach and exceed that goal!
