We are not always able to control life's difficult times. In my 56 years, I've learned that you can only control how you deal with difficult times. What does one do when you're told you have Stage 4 Colon Cancer? This is now my fight.

I've accomplished many things in my life as a chef, tradesman and professional journalist, however, fortune is one that passed me by. My wealth is in my friends, family and loved ones. I am a man of very modest means. It's difficult to focus on my fight when the domino-effects of financial responsibilities begin to crash down. Everyone tells me not to worry about it an focus on getting better, but the shadow of it looms too large to be ignored.
