On October 29, 2021, our world was flipped upside down with the words, "Your child has cancer." There are no words to explain the feelings and emotions when you wonder if your child is going to live and fear the pain that they must endure to fight for their life.
We are so grateful to live close enough to the #1 pediatric cancer treatment organization in the world- Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, and we are comforted knowing that Emily is getting the best treatment in the world!
So many people have asked over the past 18 months how they can help. Every day is different in our house. From monitoring and advocating for Emily’s care in conjunction with keeping our jobs and focusing on keeping life as normal as possible for our 11-year-old daughter, Madelyn, it’s hard to coordinate specific things that people can help with.
Over time, we’ve realized that monetary support is the most helpful. There are so many additional, unexpected costs caused by the nightmare that is cancer. In addition to losing income from taking time off for hospital stays and the additional cost of medical care, our quality of life has been impacted.
Every penny helps- from paying for gas for all her doctor’s appointments and treatments to being able to buy Emily her favorite lunch at Chipotle after a 12- hour day at Clinic, we appreciate every cent!
