Brooklyn's SDR Journey

Brooklyn’s journey has been long, hard and is continuing. The next step for Brooklyn is a non-traditional procedure called Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening, also known as PERCS. This procedure is an orthopedic tendon/muscle lengthening/release surgery for children and adults primarily with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy.

Brooklyn will be returning to St. Louis Children’s Hospital in April for PERCS at the recommendation of her neurosurgeon, Dr. T.S. Park, who performed Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery on her in Aug. 2017. Many kids who have had SDR often need PERCS in the months and years following surgery and it’s often referred to as the “icing on the cake”.

Brooklyn will have her hamstrings and gastrocs lengthened in the hopes that it will help her stand taller and walk with her heels flat on the ground (vs toe-walking and crouching).

At this time, we are asking for help to pay for this non-traditional procedure. Please make your tax-deductible contribution today and help Brooklyn stand tall.
