Brian Thompson’s Journey Back to the Open Road

Life can change in a heartbeat… my sister, Lisa Kopecki Thompson & her husband Brian set off for their last ride of the season to see the leaves change on Sunday, October 19th. While traveling with 13 other Seacoast Harley members on Rt. 111 in Hampstead, a car lost control & hit them.

Brian was airlifted to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Brookline, MA. Lisa’s motorcycle was clipped, she stayed upright & is physically fine, but her heart is broken. Almost two weeks out from the accident, Brian is still critically stable with a very serious head injury, fractured C6 vertebra in his spine, fractured pelvis, crushed left foot, deep laceration on left elbow & head. He has undergone a series of surgeries including the removal of part of his skull & pinning his foot for later reconstruction.

Brian has come through each surgery, fighting fever & is breathing on his own. We are waiting for him to wake up! He has been able to do reflexive movement but no voluntary movements. His recovery will include extensive physical therapy & a few more surgeries over a long period of time.

Brian is a wonderful father of 3 girls, grandfather to four grandsons, devoted and loving husband of 34 years & a “rock” to family members & friends! He has live in Stratham, NH for more than 24 years (grew up in Barrington, NH). He is a talented & meticulous builder whether it is a house, beautiful hardwood staircase, custom mantel or a handmade canoe built with strips of wood creating perfection in all he touches.

“Forever Adored & Eternally Grateful!”
